Gretcho is an Austronesian-Australian artist whose journey began in the world of digital design — crafting interfaces, systems, and strategies in fast-paced, high-tech environments. But over time, the complexity of corporate life left her longing for something slower, more tactile, and more human.
Sumi ink offered that sanctuary.
Rooted in the meditative traditions of shodō and sumi-e, her ink practice became a counterbalance to the noise of digital life — a return to presence, imperfection, and touch. What began as a quiet ritual soon evolved into a full creative path, where brush meets breath, and marks hold meaning beyond message.
Her works explore stillness, spontaneity, and the unspoken — each piece a distillation of movement, mood, and memory. With a minimalist palette of black and white, she embraces restraint over reaction, rhythm over rush. For Gretcho, ink is a way to draw silence — a form of design where nothing is wasted, and even hesitation becomes part of the art.
